After 30 years creating some of the most influential and innovative “rock” sounds with Sonic Youth (and inspiring me to launch SuperGlued a few years ago), Lee Ranaldo formed a new band in 2012 with longtime friends and collaborators Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth drummer), Alan Licht and Tim Lüntzel. Their latest album, The Last Night on Earth, is full of heartfelt stories about people and moments from the past. The songs are influenced by some of Lee’s favorite artists growing up including the Byrds, Neil Young and the Grateful Dead.
Lee sat down with SuperGlued to discuss the setlist — how he decides the order of songs to play, his favorite moments, how the process differs from Sonic Youth, what role the crowd plays, etc. Watch the video interview above and check out the band live on their current tour.
