Melvins Played House of Vans (Photos)

The Melvins celebrated 30 years as a band with a performance that felt like a 90s grunge video. The House of Vans was the perfect setting for Buzz Osborne, Dale Crover, Coady Willis and Jeff Pinkus (Butthole Surfers) to play their signature Seattle sound – heavy riffs and long enduring chord progressions. The crowd was younger than the usual Melvins show but the collective feel was just as intense. “Hung Bunny” and “Roman Dog Bird” were played back-to-back and “Let It All Be” was played mid set as a nice change of pace. Gibby Haynes joined the band for a cover of the Butthole Surfers’ “Graveyard” to end the night. Perfect way to end a perfectly heavy set of songs.
