Lorde is on the receiving end of a preternatural amount of buzz at the moment and the crowd's demeanor at her show at LPR last night certainly reflected that.  The hipster hive was buzzing like they were at a Strokes concert at Mercury Lounge in 2000.  While her performance certainly justified the hype, half of the fun was eavesdropping on the conversations of my fellow concertgoers.  My personal favorite conversational nugget came when one girl bragged to a friend that she'd seen Lorde in New York the year before.  More ironic than rain on your wedding day was that last night's show at LPR was Lorde's U.S. debut.

As for the performance itself, Lorde more than justified the hype surrounding her new album The Love Club. Her precociousness is the most astounding thing about her live performance as the crowd seemed constantly surprised that someone could be that talented at the ripe old age of 16 . Her stage presence and its effect on the crowd is that of someone well beyond her years. She's even made an impression on superstars like Selena Gomez, who recently tweeted lyrics from her break out single "Love Club". The audience sang along with with every word and if you didn't get chills when she took the stage you might want to check your pulse. It's possible you're dead. If this is what she's capable of at 16, then the future is certainly bright for Lorde.
