In New York, Broadway is synonymous with the theatrical song and dance experience. However, last night at Pier 26, Empire of the Sun put on a show that would make even the most successful Broadway producer green with envy. Yeah, we're looking at you James Nederlander.
Opening the night was six piece Australian, indie rock band Alpine. Their hypnotic rhythms and blazing beats got the crowd moving and appropriately warmed up for the evening's headliners, Empire of the Sun.
As expected, Empire of the Sun put on a spectacularly entertaining production. The otherworldly themes of the album were brought to life on a huge LCD backdrop while metallic costumed dancers pranced across the stage. Lead singer Luke Steele looked like a prince from outer space with a metallic spiked crown atop his head. It seemed he was merely touching down for a night to show the citizens from the greatest city in the world something even they had never seen before.
